Ready for the next step in your Counselling Career?

Become a fully certified Supervisor with
The Counselling Academy Diploma in Counselling Supervision

Traditional supervision training is broken. Thirty weeks of your life, driving hours to monthly sessions, paying for petrol and childcare, taking time off work. Or dealing with dodgy internet connections on Zoom calls where half the group doesn't show up anyway. Then you're supposed to magically find supervisees to practice on while you're still learning.

As someone who trains counsellors, I kept hearing the same complaints. So I created something that actually works.

Qualify in as little as 10 weeks, completely online, with everything you need included.

Why I Created This Course

I got tired of hearing counsellors say they wanted to do supervision training but couldn't commit to the ridiculous time requirements. Thirty weeks for something you could learn in ten? That's just padding to justify the cost.

Most supervision courses seem to forget what it's like to have a real practice with real clients and real life commitments. They expect you to travel every month, find your own supervisees to practice on, and pay through the nose for the privilege.

I designed this course for working counsellors who want to add supervision to their skills without their life falling apart in the process.

We could get this course 'accredited' but refuse to pay thousands for a meaningless badge that adds nothing to your training. That money stays in course development and lower fees for you instead.

What Makes This Different

Part 1 is self-paced theory. Eight modules covering the Seven-Eyed Model properly - it's the gold standard framework that actually works. No academic waffle, just what you need to know to supervise competently.

Part 2 pairs you with another student. You practice supervising each other for six sessions. No hunting for supervisees, no begging colleagues to let you practice on them. Your partner knows exactly what you're learning because they're learning it too.

Every piece of work gets detailed feedback within a week. I've designed a comprehensive feedback system based on my experience as a supervisor and trainer, so you get quality feedback that actually helps you improve.

You get unlimited resubmissions until you pass. The course takes you step by step with clear guidance, so we don't anticipate anyone failing. But if something needs work, you get clear feedback on how to improve it and another chance to get it right. I want you to succeed, not fail.

The Seven-Eyed Model (Without the Academic Nonsense)

This is the framework that works. Hawkins and Shohet knew what they were doing when they created it, and it's what most experienced supervisors actually use.

You'll learn all seven modes thoroughly - not just the theory but how to actually use them when you're sitting across from a supervisee who's struggling with a difficult client.

Mode 1 helps you really understand the client. Mode 2 looks at what the counsellor is actually doing. Mode 3 explores the relationship dynamics. And so on through all seven modes until you can move between them naturally.

Everything you learn has a point, and that point is making you a competent supervisor who can actually help other counsellors do more reflective work.

No More Hunting for Supervisees

This was what really frustrated me about other courses. "Go find some supervisees to practice on." Right. Because that's easy when you've never supervised anyone before and don't really know what you're doing yet.

I solved this by pairing you with another student. You supervise them, they supervise you. You're both learning the same framework, so you can focus on developing your skills instead of explaining what supervision is supposed to look like. We carefully match partners and work with both parties if adjustments are needed. Learning to work with different people is valuable professional development - just like in real supervision practice.

Your practice partner gives you feedback, you give them feedback. By the end of six sessions, you've had genuine experience as both supervisor and supervisee. Much better than the old way of trying to find counsellors willing to let you practice on them.

What You Actually Get

The Counselling Academy Diploma certificate that means something. Not some certificate you print off yourself, but a qualification that shows you know what you're doing.

Real supervision skills. You'll finish this course able to sit down with any counsellor and provide effective supervision using a framework that actually works.

Everything you need to start practicing. Supervision contracts, session notes, ethical frameworks - all the paperwork sorted so you can focus on the actual supervision.

Ongoing access to everything. Course materials, updates to templates, lifetime access to everything you need. Help and support is always available from The Counselling Academy throughout your training. We can also offer supervision to new supervisors once qualified.

Who This Is For

Counsellors ready to expand their skills. You've got your basic counselling qualification (minimum Level 4 Diploma) and you're working with clients. Now you want to help other counsellors develop their practice.

People with actual lives. You've got clients, bills to pay, maybe family commitments. You can't commit to 30 weeks of weekend training sessions, and you shouldn't have to.

Counsellors who want better earning potential. Supervision typically pays similar rates to client work - and there's always demand for good supervisors. Once you're qualified, you've got a valuable additional skill to offer.

Anyone fed up with gatekeeping in our profession. You need a minimum Level 4 Diploma in Counselling and to be currently working with clients. Counsellors come from all sorts of backgrounds and bring valuable skills and people skills plus their training into supervision work. We recognise that supervision training is often gatekept by strict requirements that don't reflect the reality of what makes a good supervisor.

This qualification is recognised by professional insurers like Holistic Insurance, who accept our training because we assess and supervise as part of the programme. We don't believe membership clubs should have power over learning - The Counselling Academy has been an established UK training company for over 7 years.

The Reality Check

This isn't a passive course where you just watch videos. You do need to engage with the learning and complete the assignments. But I've designed this to be as straightforward as possible - no unnecessary travel, no unreliable group members, no hunting for supervisees. At each stage of your practice, you're guided by clear templates that show you exactly what to do. You get 3 months from purchase to start, then you and your partner can work at whatever pace suits you both. The minimum is 10 weeks if you want to power through, but you can take longer if that works better for your schedule.

Why I'm Passionate About This

Every counsellor deserves good supervision. It makes them better at their job, which means better outcomes for their clients. It's a chain reaction - train more supervisors, improve more counsellors, help more clients.

I've designed this course because I want to see more counsellors step up into supervision roles. Not because they've jumped through arbitrary hoops or paid membership fees to exclusive clubs, but because they have the skills and commitment to do it well.

The more people who learn supervision effectively, the better our profession becomes. And the better our profession becomes, the more we can help the people who need us.

Part 1: Curriculum

Part 1 provides comprehensive theoretical grounding through eight structured modules that establish your expertise in supervision principles and practice. This self-paced component typically takes 6-8 hours to complete, allowing you to balance learning with your existing professional commitments.

Module 1: Introduction to Supervision in Counselling - Understanding supervision functions, purposes, and professional requirements within the counselling framework.

Module 2: The Seven-Eyed Model in Depth - Comprehensive exploration of Hawkins & Shohet's internationally recognised supervision framework and its practical applications.

Module 3: Modes 1-3 (Client and Intervention Focus) - Mastering supervision approaches that focus on the client's presentation and therapeutic interventions.

Module 4: Modes 4-5 (Supervisee and Relationship Focus) - Developing skills to explore the supervisee's internal process and the therapeutic relationship dynamics.

Module 5: Modes 6-7 (Supervisor Processes and Context) - Understanding your role as supervisor and navigating organisational and professional contexts effectively.

Module 6: Supervision Across Different Therapeutic Approaches - Adapting supervision styles and techniques for various therapeutic modalities and orientations.

Module 7: Challenges and Ethical Dilemmas in Supervision - Managing complex situations, ethical considerations, and professional boundary issues in supervision practice.

Module 8: Preparing for Practical Supervision - Bridging theory to practice with practical frameworks, session planning, and readiness assessment for supervised practice.

Part 2: The Practice (6 Sessions)

Once you've completed Part 1, you'll be paired with another student who's at the same stage. You'll work together through six structured supervision sessions.

Here's how it works:

Each session focuses on different modes of the Seven-Eyed Model. One of you is the supervisor, the other is the supervisee. You swap roles across the sessions so both of you get thorough experience.

After each session, you write it up. These six write-ups form your case study - documenting your development as a supervisor across all the modes. You'll show how you applied what you learned in Part 1 to actual supervision practice.

The write-ups follow clear templates, so you know exactly what to include. You're not guessing what we're looking for - we guide you through each one. The Supervisee role will also include some feedback for the Supervisor role.

Once you've completed and submitted all six sessions, you write a final essay. This brings everything together - your understanding of the Seven-Eyed Model and how you've applied it in practice.

Every piece of work gets detailed feedback within a week. If something needs improving, you resubmit until it passes. Unlimited resubmissions - we want you to succeed, not fail.

Why the peer partnership works:

No hunting for supervisees whilst you're still learning. Your partner knows the framework because they're learning it too. You can focus on developing your supervision skills instead of explaining what supervision is or worrying about looking incompetent.

You get experience as both supervisor and supervisee. This dual perspective is invaluable - you understand what it feels like to be supervised using the Seven-Eyed Model, which makes you a better supervisor.

By the end of Part 2, you've got genuine supervision experience documented in a proper case study. Not theory, not role play with an instructor watching - actual supervised practice with comprehensive feedback on your development.
