To access this course you do not need to be with any 'Voluntary Membership Club' nor be ‘Accredited’ by any such clubs. It's a MYTH that you need to be either of those things to be able to learn how to deliver EMDR in your practice or work place!

Being in a membership club or being accredited does not mean the therapist is a better Counsellor or that only ‘they’ can learn a specific modality/technique. It would seem that someone in a Membership Club at some point came up with this elitist attitude/idea and that only the ‘special few’ who have joined and pay for the privilege of being in said club/s, and jumped through hoops to get an ‘Accredited’ badge can learn EMDR!

I'm calling that out as BULLSHIT!

Here at The Counselling Academy we aim to be as inclusive as possible, which means you do not need to be part of any voluntary membership club to do any of our courses! All we ask is that you have a core qualification in Counselling - usually a Level 4 Diploma or above as we do not cover core basics of Counselling as our target audience is for those that have already invested and completed a minimum of a Level 4 Diploma. (Although we are open to any Mental Health practitioner learning this if they feel it will benefit their clients - please reach out and talk to us)

When I decided to invest in EMDR to add to my practice, I was so disappointed at this discriminate, corrupt and elitist practice of putting limitations on learning due to snobbery and corporate greed. It still shocks me that this continues in this day and age. I fortunately found an EMDR training course in London that did not require or demand such membership or accreditation.

The UK Counselling profession is NOT governed and there are NO Government regulators in the Counselling profession (only Clinical Psychology & Play Therapist) - I often hear ‘governing body’ used for voluntary membership clubs and this is not correct - they are membership clubs ONLY. They hold absolutely NO power in our profession and their highly paid PR departments have done a wonderful job in convincing employers and organisations that they have and that all counsellors should be part of their club. Hence why job adverts ask for it, because they have no idea about our profession.

So, this course is for all those Counsellors who do not want to join a voluntary membership club/to get accreditation, just to be able to LEARN and practice EMDR. This course is based on my own training, my own continuous learning in the subject and my experience of doing EMDR since early 2019. As we don’t discriminate, this course is also for those that DO belong to a membership club or ARE accredited too!

This course comes in 3 Parts and will teach you the protocol that Francine Shapiro (founder of the premise of EMDR) conducted all her research on over many years (its been over 30 years) to get you practicing whilst you are still continuing to learn the power of this technique. Part 2 is your Practice section and Part 3 is the Advanced section which makes this the Ultimate EMDR toolkit

To receive your Diploma you will need to complete the the online theory - Part 1, then submit 6 different case studies based on real clients (or family and friends), along with 3 supervision sessions with myself which are included in the cost of the course (worth £300) for Part 2. (Supervision is valid for one year from purchase date. Supervision after one year of having the course cost £100 per session) One year is ample time to have completed Part 1 & 2 and in reality it can take as little as 3 months to complete these two parts.
You will receive your Diploma Certificate once you have completed, Part 1 - Introduction & Implementation, Part 2 - Intermediate and Part 3 which is the Advanced level. As with all The Counselling Academy courses you have life time access to the online modules, so you can come back and refresh anything at anytime!

Also included in the course will be a dedicated Facebook group which will be private/secret and vetted to ensure only students on the course are approved to join. This will be a safe place to talk all things client case related so you will have constant peer support at your disposal. You can also book one to one supervision Ad Hoc with me via your Dashboard at any time once you start practicing EMDR, it might be that your own supervisor is not trained in Trauma informed modalities. (I will supply a list of supervisors if needed). We also hold low cost monthly Peer Supervision on the last Friday of the month.

I feel very passionate about equality and about EMDR and this is why I have developed this course - the more peers that learn EMDR the more clients recover from trauma, and the majority of our clients lives are affected by some trauma, more so from their childhood that then affects their relationships, careers and life in general.
