Why choose the DBT Toolkit?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is an evidence-based psychotherapy that began with efforts to treat Borderline Personality Disorder. It is now recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) as the gold standard psychological treatment for both Borderline and Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder, or where clients are acknowledged to be struggling to regulate and manage emotions. There is evidence that DBT can also be useful in treating mood disorders, suicidal ideation, eating disorders and for addressing change in behavioural patterns such as self-harm, and alcohol and substance abuse.

Training as a DBT Therapist can be a lengthy and expensive process and is considered highly specialised. However, there is a saturation of evidence that shows that when using DBT informed approaches outside of the model when you have a grounded understanding of the underpinning theoretical approach you can still achieve life changing outcomes for clients. So how do you achieve this?

The DBT Toolkit has been designed to compliment existing training, practice and experience, and introduce the learner to the fundamental skills and ideas on how to think and address problems from a DBT approach. We will explore the underlying principles of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and then move to reviewing the 4 major skills modules contained within DBT and take a detailed look at three skills from each one that you can immediately start using within clinical practice.

This tool kit is ideal for any practitioner who wants a better understanding of Personality Disorder, or who wants to be able to add the understanding and application of DBT skills into their clinical practice.

I found the content of the course to be interesting and informative and feel I can use it to complement my existing skills. I am fully aware that it does not bestow a qualification but gives an insight for further study. One area that I found a little frustrating at times was the amount of spelling and grammatical mistakes in some of the content. I feel that this would be easy to correct and makes me question the professionalism of the course providers. Even a basic spell check would allow some of the mistakes to be rectified.
